Job description

The projects 'Sustainability and value added in Agricultural supply Chains (AgriChain)' and 'Green Innovation Centres in the Agri-Food Sector (GIAE)' are both part of the special initiative 'One World without Hunger'. They promote the development and sustainability of selected agricultural value chains. The GIAE project contributes to the development of the cocoa value chain in Cameroon. It works through and with selected specialised partner organisations and cooperatives. Its activities include trainings in good agricultural practices and entrepreneurship as well as the introduction of innovations. As part of the "Sustainable Cocoa Initiative", the AgriChain project will now support the development of a sustainable cocoa sector in Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana and Cameroon. The 'Sustainable Cocoa Initiative' aims at enabling smallholders to earn a 'living income', to contribute to national revenues, to stop deforestation and to prevent human rights violations such as child labour and gender inequality.

Your tasks

  • Technical steering of project activities within the framework of the 'Sustainable Cocoa Initiative' Cameroon component and the cocoa value chain of the Green Innovation Centre Cameroon, including budget planning and steering of the AgriChain component
  • Coordination of project activities with political partners, other implementing agencies of the 'Sustainable Cocoa Initiative', the EU Delegation on site, the GIAE project and the steering unit of the AgriChain project
  • Facilitation of multi-stakeholder platform dialogues with important institutions of the cocoa sector in Cameroon, upstream and downstream companies, producer organisations, non-governmental-organizations as well as training institutions to ensure effective coordination and cooperation
  • Coordination of activities with other technical assistance projects within the portfolio in Cameroon, as well as contribution to identifying and exploiting acquisition potentials
  • Technical management of experts, consultancies and finance agreements
  • Reporting for the Cameroon service package, including financial reporting for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Directorate-General for International Partnerships of the EU
  • Financial monitoring and implementation of a monitoring & evaluation system
  • Representing the project at conferences and contributing to the preparation of fact sheets, speeches and other information and communication products

Your profile

  • University degree in agriculture, social sciences, economics or a similar field of expertise
  • Several years of professional experience in international cooperation with consulting companies or in the private sector, with a focus on agricultural development, agri-business, value chains and agricultural supply chains as well as sustainability issues and management approaches relevant to development cooperation
  • Several years of advisory experience in the field of sustainable agriculture on the topic of deforestation-free and fair supply chains as well as experience and knowledge in the African cocoa sector
  • Knowledge of networks and platforms in the West African or Cameroonian cocoa sector as well as of relevant government structures is an advantage
  • Several years of experience in project management, especially in budget planning and control as well as in the implementation of development partnerships with the private sector and multi-stakeholder processes in international cooperation
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant instruments and procedures of international development cooperation; experience with the implementation of EU-funded projects is an advantage
  • Strong communication skills, intercultural and political sensitivity, diplomatic skills and a confident manner
  • Fluency in English and French; German is an asset
