Background

Reach Out is a women-led and youth-focused NGO with more than 23 years of experience in Health, Human rights, and Wealth creation related activities. Reach Out as the Humanitarian Sub Recipient under the mandate of the New Financing Mechanism of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in the project titled “Scaling Up Malaria for High Impact in the Northwest and Southwest regions”, is launching the recruitment for Drivers in the North-West and South-West regions.

 

ROLE PURPOSE

The purpose of this role is to provide transportation services to project staff in a safe, courteous and timely manner.

DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE

• Vehicle maintenance and management in respect of vehicle use policy,
• Cleans vehicle and perform routine checks to ensure it has proper working tools on a daily basis.
• Refuels vehicle using an approved fuel voucher and records this on the vehicle log sheet timeously and as written in vehicle use policy.
• Parks vehicle safely at designated place at the end of each working day not later than 6 pm.
• Ensures that after hours travels have prior formal approval by the Executive Director.
• Ensure vehicle movement log book is filled timely and regularly.
• Immediately reports, all accidents or issues involving the vehicles designated for the project.
• Compliance to the motor vehicle and travel policy provisions of Reach Out.

Staff and material transportation:

• Transports project staff to all areas as instructed and with approved vehicle request forms.
• Ensure vehicles have necessary materials such as umbrellas, first aid box, map, fire extinguishers etc.
• Files in accurately vehicle log books.
• Prepares monthly vehicles’ usage reports for allocated vehicles (cost recovery).

ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Observe, anticipate and drive defensively to safeguard life and property always,
• Exhibit a good sense of judgment and responsibility while driving,
• In case of accident, make sure a Police report is made before moving,
• Works with minimum supervision.

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Qualifications

• GCE O level/Advance Level
• At least 3 years driving experience in the formal sector
• Valid driving license with at least class B/D
• Experience in the NGO sector preferably with child-related development issues, would be an advantage
• Basic auto mechanic skills
• Good knowledge of Highway Code
• Good communication skills
• Good verbal and writing skills
• Good inter-personal skills

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

This position entails 70% travelling time within REO offices and hard to reach communities in the North-West and South-West Regions with 30% of the time on office related activities.
