A FIELD COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER (OS01600)

Related with our activities we are looking for A FIELD COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER (FCO)

Working locations: NORTH WEST REGION

Type of contract: FTC (Fixed-Term Contract)

Level: 7

Salary: According to the organisation´s Salary Grid

 Main Purpose

Contributing to the implementation of operational communication strategy in the mission according to Doctors Without Borders (MSF) standards. Aiming at building visibility, acceptance and leverage inside the country with the particular focus in the North West and South West regions. Focusing on: audio-visual content creation, support to social media monitoring and management; as well as ; local media monitoring and management in collaboration with FCO based in Buea.

The Field Communications Officer (FCO) works under the technical supervision of the Field Communications Manager (FCM), in close collaboration with the Head of Mission (HoM) in Bamenda and the Buea-based Field Communications Officer.

Principal Tasks

a) Content production and diffusion

  • The FCO produces audio-visual materials and stories (photos, articles, videos) and supervises the production of local communication tools (leaflets, brochures, posters, radio spots…) according to local strategy and budget.
  • He/she will help identify the right communications tools and will adapt/translate communications materials to targeted local audiences.
  • The FCO actively diffuses MSF content in the project location in local languages and among local media, including contribution to social media postings

b) Social Media Production, Monitoring and Evaluation

  • The FCO will support in the production of content on MSF operations and identity in Bamenda and, in relationship with other communications colleagues, on other operations in Cameroon. 
  • He/she monitors qualitative and qualitative mentions, visibility and messaging about MSF and acts accordingly
  • He/she analyses and reports on the impact of and about MSF messages on social media in collaboration with the FCM

c) Media Management

  • In coordination with his/her counterpart in Buea, the FCO establishes and maintains regular relations with key local media contacts based in Bamenda (journalists, bloggers, photographers, and cameramen).
  • He/ she will handle local media requests and contact media to pitch MSFwhen requested.
  • He/she organizes events for local media (Press conference, Press briefing…) with the support of his counterpart in Buea.

d)  Media Alert

  • The FCO monitors local media on a daily basis and flags significant articles, trends, news or reports of importance for MSF or on the context to Head of Mission, Field Communications Manager (FCM), Buea-based Field Communications Officer and Bamenda Project Coordinator.
  • In collaboration with the Buea-based FCO, he/she supports the production of strategic reports on the local media landscape (key media, audience numbers, political affiliation, ownership, freedom of speech, use of social media) and regularly reports on new developments.
  • He/she provides guidance on how to deal with local media. 

e) Internal Communication

  • The FCO helps promoting/MSF principles, identity and activitiestowards Bamenda staff, and sensitizes staff on why, what and how MSF communicates.
  • He/ she can edit the production of internal communication tools (newsletter, etc.) under the supervision of the FCM.

 f) Reporting

  • The FCO will participate in communication data-collection and reporting as required

g) Capacity Building

  • The FCO will support non-communication staff in aligning their messages with MSF´s overall communication.

Required Qualifications

Education

Essential: degree in Communications, Multimedia, Journalism or related university degree.

Experience

Essential: previous working experience of at least two years in communications, AV production, social media management, journalism or public relations.

Essential: previous working experience in dealing with social media and traditional media.
