BACKGROUND
TRAFFIC is a leading non-governmental organization working globally on trade in wild animals and plants in the context of both biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. TRAFFIC Central Africa office is looking for a finance assistant to be based in TRAFFIC Central Africa office in Yaounde, Cameroon.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Characteristic Duties

TRAFFIC is looking for Finance and Administrative Assistant to be based in Yaounde whose mission will be to support the development of TRAFFIC's activities in Yaounde. The successful candidate will provide Accounting and financial support
for the implementation of the Central African Programme.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Finance and Administrative Assistant will assist in some finance and administrative aspects required in the implementation of the Central African Programme, including Budget Planning and Monitoring ; Accounting and Treasury management; Documents filing, Financial reporting, payment tracking, and preparation and follow-up of audits, among other tasks.

The Account Assistant will among many other tasks perform the following:

1.Monitor monthly and quarterly expenses incurred by the Programme Office.
2.Regularly update financial planning to ensure the proper use of funds in a timely manner.
3.Assist in the preparation of end-of-project audits by ensuring that all supporting documents are available and easily accessible.
4.Develop and track all advance requests, claims and submit them to TRAFFIC's Finance Officer for processing in SAGE.
5.Attend project events and meetings to provide administrative and logistical support, as required.
6.Participates in the budgeting process and ensures that operational plans are consistent with the approved budgets.
7.Processes Payment Vouchers and Journal Vouchers on time and in accordance with the Financial Procedures and Policy Manual.
8.Encodes accrual accounting entries in accordance with the accrual accounting plan of action.
9.Records all documents sent out of Finance Department to the appropriate ledger for traceability.
10.Facilitates all payments in the field during various activities (training, workshops, etc).
11.Analysis and reconciles project expenditures Vs budget accurately and on time.
12.Files all Disbursement Vouchers/Journal Vouchers systematically no later than the following month, with all supporting documents.
13.Prepare and submit donor financial reports on time as per the agreement with donors/s, in collaboration with the Project Managers and Finance Officer.
14.Prepare and submit monthly cash reconciliation of the bank account;
15.Perform others tasks assigned by the supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Holds a bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in management, administration, finance, accounting or related field.

At least three years of experience in the administrative and financial field, preferably in the implementation of development projects related to international cooperation.

A good understanding of accounting principles and experience working with accounting software would be desirable.

Familiarity with SAGE/ACCPAC will be considered an asset.

Highly motivated and results-oriented person.

Strong writing skills, attention to detail.

Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and execute tasks as needed, ability to work independently with remote supervision, and ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Excellent command of IT tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Excellent interpersonal skills, strong communication skills and good team spirit.

Verbal and written fluency in English and French is essential. Fluency in English will be considered a major asset.

Any proven experience or interest in the field of nature conservation will be considered an asset.

Ability to work in an international, multicultural, and multidisciplinary team.

Flexibility and occasional availability outside working hours due to the necessary coordination with teams based in other time zones.

Possible availability to travel within the country, if necessary.
