JOB ANNOUNCEMENT The Georgetown University Center for Global Health Practice and Impact (CGHPI) serves countries to improve their population health and wellbeing and to safeguard against health-related threats by advancing the use of evidence and human-centered enterprise architecture on the path towards achieving equity and social justice. To achieve this mission, we catalyze the uptake, spread, and implementation of innovations; triangulate data from different sources, and tailor visualization of the information for each audience; design and implement integrated service delivery models; support communities of practice to inform policy and practice through efficient data use and horizontal and vertical collaboration; disseminate best practices and evidence globally through open-source learning networks; build global, collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and interprofessional networks; undertake research that is informed by local needs; and invest in local leadership to own, provide oversight, and sustain implemented interventions. Georgetown University, through CGHPI, has recently received an award from U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC) through funding from the U.S President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to support HIV response efforts in Cameroon for achievement of HIV epidemic control to implement a program titled Translating Data and Evidence into Impact (TIDE). As a result, CGHPI is recruiting for the following program implementation position. All prospective candidates must be fluent in French and working knowledge of English. These positions will be based in Yaoundé or Bertoua. CGHPI is operating in Cameroon as Georgetown Global Health LLC (GGHC).

Position: Molecular Biologist

Reports to: Program Director

Position Summary:

The post holder will be an integral part of the laboratory system, taking a primary role in supporting training, ensuring quality and expanding laboratory capacity in Molecular Biology. The post holder will report to the Technical Director. The holder is expected to improve quality, catalyze new work and take a leading technical support role in the projects.

Essential Functions:

- Take responsibility for, and work with, Reference labs staff and Principal Investigators to develop, implement and conduct quality control and assurance processes to ensure the reliability and robustness of the molecular biology data being produced.

- Take a leading role in the implementation of the Lab Quality Management Program to achieve, and then retain, ISO15189 accreditation.

- Proactively identify problems and variations from agreed standards, and to initiate effective corrective and preventive actions.

- Drive regular internal audits to assess the quality of the systems in place and any relevant data outputs.

- Develop and monitor relevant Key Performance Indicators

- Drive the development and expansion of this key and crucial area of service within GU program.

- Provide technical support to the Laboratory technicians within molecular diagnosis.

- Advise and assist with development and optimization of new protocols and SOPs as needed.

- Coordinate the access and use of the molecular biology laboratories, as well as ensure that the lab functions on a day-to-day basis without service interruption.

- Ensure the molecular laboratories are maintained to the highest standard by assisting with the development and maintenance of documentation including training documents, SOPs, competency assessments, checklists, equipment maintenance/calibration procedures, etc.

Qualifications, Training & Knowledge

- BSc in Biomedical Science with 8 years molecular diagnosis experience or Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with 5 years’ experience or PhD degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related field with 3+ years of experience

- Demonstrated ability to train and supervise other scientists

- Collaborative experience with external partners is a plus

- Hands-on molecular biology experience

- Routine experience with most common molecular procedures such as nucleic acid isolation, PCR, RT-PCR…

- Good knowledge of GLP’s
