The Network Solutions Architect will support a customer program based in D.C., working under the direction of of the customer's Chief of Solution Engineering and Chief of Networks and Platform in order to ensure that the testing capability is in place to accurately test various types of degraded or limited network conditions.

*This is a temporary, 6 month assignment. 

This is a remote position and can be based outside of the United States.*

• Classify network characteristics into representative testing profiles, specifying various combinations of available bandwidth, network latency, and jitter.
• Prepare a network testing strategy to be used by developers and project team members in BTP and PRIMES to test their applications on degraded network conditions.
• Assist project teams to carry out application testing on degraded network conditions in accordance with the above.
• Ensure that the tests are recorded and compared to established baselines.
• Review and optimize the existing network architecture configurations for the various applications, such as Oracle ERP, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Salesforce, Workday, Board International, and others.
• Establish, document, and enforce best-practice optimization methods for all parts of the network topology from application-providers to customer user communities.
• Test all proposed optimizations against well-established baselines representing an original state; update baselines post implementation of changes.
• Ensure successful changes are well documented and pursued with other application vendors and customer project teams.
• Ensure successful conversion of field equipment to the newest technologies available and verify that VSAT network optimization profiles are relevant and optimally set for the new applications.

• 10+ years of IT work experience, with at least 3 years of network architecture and optimization 
• University degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or a related field
• Deep knowledge of and experience with configuring and testing WAN and VSAT technologies
• Proven experience in working with external solution providers including offshore
• Familiarity with implementation of traditional network technologies by the main public cloud providers, Azure and AWS; understanding of differences between cloud and traditional network technology
• Strong practical knowledge of network optimization technologies and techniques
• Proven experience in working effectively in virtual teams.
• Practical experience implementing network optimization techniques.
• Practical experience in monitoring network status and detecting resolving related incidents.
• Excellent organizational skills, tracking, documenting, and coordinating
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

• Experience in working for UN agencies, International Organizations, NGOs, or Public Sector
• Experience working in Central, Southern Africa, Asia Pacific, and the Americas
• Knowledge of VSAT C-band and Ku-band technologies
• Knowledge of Riverbed optimization HW/SW
• Experience with major enterprise applications (especially SaaS)
