About Hope for Children International

Hope for children international is a Youth Centered Community Based Development Organization. The mission of the organization is to use the power of sports to educate, inspire and mobilize youths and communities to stop the spread of HIV, alcohol, drug use, unemployment and awaken talents so as to ensure a smooth transition into responsible adulthood.

Position Summary

Hope for Children International is seeking the services of a Project Specialist (Intern) to write project proposals for the organization as well as assist in the implementation of its activities. Working in close collaboration with the Program Manager, the project officer shall research and identify funding opportunities and design project proposals for HOCI.

Key Responsibilities

-       Responsible for researching and identifying new prospects and funding opportunities from funding agencies (Foundations, Trusts and governments.)

-       Prepare project proposals and/or concept papers for HOCI based on need assessment outcomes and donor interests.

-       Rapidly revise, update and expand concept papers into full project proposals as recommended by donors and ensure they are submitted within deadlines.

-       Present each proposal prepared to the HOCI team for criticisms and inputs before a final copy is sent out to potential funders.

-       Ensure that project proposals adhere to international humanitarian principles and provide management with final copies of project proposals for submission.

-       Assist in the preparation of project plans and ensures that activities are implemented according to plans and within budgets.

-       Collaborate with the Program Manager to prepare progress reports, annual reports, project completion report and other reports that may be required by the stakeholders

-       Work closely with the HOCI finance team to ensure that project budgets comply with HOCI and donor requirements.

-       Identify information gaps blocking proposal completion and secure the necessary information to complete it.

-       Any other tasks as may be required by HOCI’s Management

Qualifications

Bachelor Degree or HND in Project Planning/Management, Development Studies, Business Administration, Social Sciences or other related fields.

Required skills and competencies

-       Excellent communication skills, written, and oral proficiency in English, with a working knowledge in French desirable;

-       Familiarity with the requirements and formats of different donors with respect to sectors, priorities, guidelines and what budget lines are fundable and what are not.

-       Knowledge of time frame and submission deadlines for the relevant donors

-       Mastery of Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)

-       Highly self-motivated and result-oriented; ability to work with little or no guidance;

-       Well-developed interpersonal skills to deal effectively, efficiently and appropriately with internal and external stakeholders including senior staff;

-       Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

-       Excellent critical, creative thinking and analytical skills as well as ability to use initiative to solve problems.

-       Be flexible and adaptable.

-       Willingness and ability to undertake a broad range of tasks as necessary in a small, growing organization

Contract Period: Three (03) months renewable

Start Date: 1st of March 2020

Location: Yaoundé
