Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the oversight of the Chief of Protection, Transition and Reintegration Section or his/her designate, and the direct supervision of the Section’s Information Analysis and Reporting team lead, the UN Volunteer’s duties will include:

·         Monitor and analyze ongoing and emerging developments/events relevant for the implementation of the Mission’s mandate, especially protection of civilians, return and reintegration of Internally Displaced persons (IDPs), and recovery and stabilization;

·         Provide coordination support between the Mission, United Nations Agencies and Programmes, and humanitarian partners delivering services inside and outside of protection of Civilians sites and redesignated sites across the country;

·         Work with the local authorities on needs assessments, strategic planning, formulation of activities and related tasks for relief, reintegration, and protection;

·         Participate in joint integrated patrols and interview civilian population, IDPs, returnees and local authorities on protection, return and reintegration mechanisms and concerns;

·         Provide information and analysis regarding the security, humanitarian, and protection situation in the mission area especially protection of civilians’ sites, redesignated sites and return areas, including analyzing trends in IDP and returnee movements;

·         Prepare, edit, and disseminate information in the form of regular reports, incident reports, threat assessments, briefing notes, incident/trend analysis, scenario papers, area profiles and risk mapping among others;

·         Provide accurate and timely reporting on protection of civilians, return, reintegration, stabilization, recovery, and other related transition issues, including daily reports and weekly updates, integrated situational analysis, and briefing materials, which support decision-making, policy development and planning by the senior management of the Section and the Mission leadership;

·         Develop and manage information analysis processes and tools, such as the Section’s daily and weekly reports and updates, as well as inputs to Secretary-General’s reports;

·         Represent the Section at working-level meetings and fora within the Mission as well as with external partners;

·         Draft code cable inputs concerning Mission reporting on protection of civilians; return and reintegration of IDPs; and Quick Impact Projects;

·         Conduct intentional training and mentoring to build capacity of local counterparts and colleagues;

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience remark

·         Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in the areas of protection of civilians, humanitarian affairs, early recovery, return and reintegration, rehabilitation and development, inter-agency coordination, programme management, related areas;

·         Minimum of 2 years of fieldwork coordinating complex interdisciplinary and multi-dimensional programmes and projects in a post-conflict context;

·         Solid computer skills, including full proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word etc.)

Language skills

·         English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise

Other civil society or community development experience, Emergency response, immediate relief operations, and post-conflict humanitarian aid operations, Other development programme/project experience

Area of expertise details

·         Experience in one or more of the areas protection of civilians; ability to promote a coherent approach towards protection of civilians, return, recovery and stabilisation of internally displaced persons, advocacy, and facilitation for expanding delivery of humanitarian and protection services, return, stabilization, and reintegration of conflict-affected populations;

·         Knowledge and experience in managing and executing data management initiatives. Analytical skills that allow for the development of trends- and evidence-based reports;

·         Recent field experience in the region is desirable, with the UN common system (UN peacekeeping political mission, or UN agencies, Funds and Programmes) is required.
