Background: The Center for Health Promotion and Research provides high-quality diagnostic services, undertakes programs to strengthen health provision, and engages in research to increase knowledge and inform policy change.

 

Position summary: Assist to conduct research projects in the area of public health. Full-time      position, based in Bamenda with ~ 5-15% travel to other regions.

 

Typical responsibilities, depending on skill set

?        Support Research Manager to coordinate activities of study personnel and ensure efficient, timely, and high-quality results

?        Maintain and supervise the collection of accurate and timely records

?        Set up and maintain research databases (e.g., REDCap, Google form/sheets)

?        Create reports, tables, charts, graphs, and/or presentations of research progress

?        Assist to analyze research data, interpret results, and prepare manuscripts and presentations

?        Stay up-to-date with new and updated relevant protocols and research findings; conduct literature searches and maintain citation databases

?        Liaise between different members of the team to identify and resolve problems encountered in the course of the research

?        Participate in regular team meetings to review progress and deliverables

?        Participate in continuing education programs, workshops, and seminars as needed

?        Monitor laboratory and/or other supplies to ensure sufficient inventory to support research activities. Ensures quality of reagents or other supplies.

?        Work to deadlines as required by project timelines

?        Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external contacts to foster effective work and future collaboration

?        Perform other duties as needed to ensure the success of the project

 

Job qualifications:

?        Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Sciences or related area

?        Preferred: 2+ years of research experience

?        Strong interest and passion to work as part of a team to improve public health      

?        Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, good working knowledge in French is an advantage

?        Ability to plan own work, set priorities and work under pressure

?        Excellent critical thinking skills

?        Proficient in Excel and other data management and analytic software, and willingness to learn new programs as needed

?        A high level of initiative and the ability to work independently

?        Proven ability to work effectively as a member of team in a fast-paced environment
