1. General context of the call

The Town Hall of Douala 1er within the framework of the implementation of the components of its project "Unesco heritage for Sustainable Cities - USC" launches a call for applications for the selection and deployment in internship of 200 young men and women in its services for the 2022 financial year.


This project consists of promoting integrated urban development through partnerships developed between the cities of Montemarciano in Italy, Haskovo in Bulgaria, Saint-Louis in Senegal and the municipality of Douala 1er in Cameroon.

More specifically, these are:
  •  Set up a Local Agenda 21 for a sustainable city and take the initiative to decide on the political measures to adopt and how to implement them;
  •  Fight against poverty, urban exclusion, social inequalities, marginalization and segregation in particular of women, young people, indigenous people in access to housing through the establishment of a communal brickyard allowing access inexpensively to local building materials through participatory urban planning;
  •  Ensure the promotion of inclusive employment and growth through the construction of the first municipal brickyard in sub-Saharan Africa;
  •  Make the Commune of Douala 1st a smart city in terms of cultural urban development where the operational efficiency of ICTs makes it possible to share information with the public while improving the quality of cultural public services.
  •  Ensure cultural urban development through the enhancement of tangible and intangible ancestral and colonial heritage and compile the application file to make the historic colonial urban center of Bonanjo with its colonial port, a potential UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Getting involved as an intern means having the opportunity to work in collaboration with our team, to participate in significant projects and to contribute to the emergence of Douala 1er.

2. Objective of the call

The objective of this call is to select and deploy young men and women from Douala 1er as "volunteers for the sustainable development of the Arrondissement Commune of Douala 1er". The specific objective is to mobilize 200 young people residing in the Arrondissement Commune of Douala 1er on a project of general interest contributing to the improvement of the living environment of the inhabitants. Internship activities will be coordinated by the Youth Volunteering Service of the Douala 1er Arrondissement Commune.

3. Target

This call is aimed at young men and women in precarious situations in Douala 1er.

4. Dates
The call for applications is open from July 28 to August 04, 2022 . The internships are granted for a period of 1 month to be carried out between August 08 and September 07, 2022.

5. Application

file The application file consists of the following elements:
  •  A stamped handwritten request (tax and municipal stamps) addressed to the Mayor of Douala 1st;
  •  The certificate or certificate of schooling for the current school year;
  •  A photocopy of the national identity card, if necessary a photocopy of the school card or student card.
 
6. Selection

criteria The selection criteria are as follows:
  • Being a pupil or student
  • Be between 15 and 25 years old
  • Be resident in Douala 1st
  • Priority to applications from underprivileged social strata
 
7. Submission of applications

The application file (see n°6) is submitted to the project office of the said Town Hall, door 402.

8. Announcement of the results

After examination of the files, the announcement of the selected applications will be published on August 05, 2022 at 5 p.m. at the latest.

9. Volunteering activities 2022

The selected volunteers will be mobilized around different activities structured in 2 phases.

1st phase: Capacity building seminars
  •  Moral rearmament seminar on the values ??of the Republic of Cameroon (2h);
  • Seminar on the appropriation of the 17 SDGs (4h);
  •  Seminar to raise awareness of local development problems in the Douala 1er Arrondissement Commune (4h).
 
2nd phase: Volunteering activities
For this phase, the selected volunteers will be organized into a team to generally carry out their volunteering activities in all the villages and emblematic districts of Douala 1er through the following actions: § Sanitize and beautify the public primary schools of Douala 1er;
  •  Sanitize public services and chiefdoms in order to contribute to the improvement of the living environment of the inhabitants through painting, catering, animation, etc. ;
  • Sanitize natural spaces;
  • Fit out premises of a social, cultural nature, etc.
NB: An indicative list of specific field activities will be made available to selected volunteers.
